May 2: From the principal,
Another huge thank you to everyone who has already filled out our annual parent survey! We have already had 116 parents complete the survey (just over 12% of the parent population). I am hoping that we can reach 25% by the end of the weekend. This anonymous
information will be very important to us as we plan ahead for next year. If you
have not filled out the survey, here is the information:

2) In the next month, students in the junior grades will be completing the annual
school climate survey. Here is some information about this survey from the
board:
The purpose of the school climate survey is to better understand
perceptions about safety at school. We know that when students feel safe and
welcomed at school that they are more likely to achieve at high
levels.
This survey asks questions related to school climate and safety,
including age, gender, ethnicity, experience with bullying, perception of
school, and sense of belonging. We will use this information to help school
staff develop strategies to prevent bullying and to promote safe and inclusive
schools.
The survey is completely anonymous and voluntary. Students can decide whether they wish to
complete the survey and can also choose to skip certain questions. The survey is
confidential; it does not include the student name. The survey results will be
reported at an aggregate level only, not at an individual level. The survey data
will not be linked to any other student data. The survey takes approximately
thirty minutes to complete.

January 15: Important news for PARENTS & STUDENTS about our BLOG
BLOG & WEBSITE: Our class website is a useful tool to stay updated on your child’s schooling. Students know how to access mmemarnie2014.weebly.com and are asked to check the site periodically during lessons. The site contains many
useful tools and lesson documents should they wish to have a second look or even a SNEAK PEAK. The parent’s page is also updated frequently with important information on lessons and information about our classroom. Your child will be required to check our BLOG before coming to school each week.
The BLOG will be updated by FRIDAY of each week. Students can anticipate a short
task, a reading, a video or an activity that should take your child no more than
10 minutes to complete. This weekly web work will be related to what we are
learning in class. Sometimes it will be a review of an activity or lesson from
the previous week, other times it may be something new that will be learned in
class that coming week. In this case it is intended spark your child’s curiosity
about upcoming class fun! In addition to the weekly web work your child will get
a general preview of that week’s in class explorations!
Should your child ever run into an issue where the computer won’t work, the internet or BLOG is down, a link doesn’t work or a file won’t open etc. PLEASE DO NOT PANIC. Simply send a quick note in the Agenda to let me know.
Should PARENTS be exploring our BLOG pages, please do not post any comments yourself. This BLOG is meant for STUDENT communication only. We use the BLOG as an authentic tool to
promote and encourage meaningful French communication as part of our Immersion
programme.

We have had a great first week in grades 4 & 5 EFI!
-A note was sent home on Monday for parents and students. If you did not receive a note here is the electronic copy.
AGENDA REMINDER: Now that your child is a junior student it will be his or her responsibility to write any homework, assignments or special dates into his or her agenda. Students are expected to bring their agenda and necessary work to and from school each day. Please be sure to check and initial your child’s agenda each day. Students understand it is THEIR responsibility to bring the agenda home and to ask that it be initialed every day.
-Nightly reading in French and English is important for continued success in school. This is the daily "homework" that is required.
-Occasionally special activities will require work at home. All information for these projects will be updated on the website for easy reference.

January 6: Happy New Year! Welcome to the grades 4 & 5 Parents Page!
Anything posted on this page of our BLOG will be written in ENGLISH for PARENTS! What you can expect to find on the PARENTS PAGE: major assignment explanations, messages, newsletters, important dates and occasional reminders. From past years I have found that I update the PARENTS PAGE approximately every week. Please be sure to check that you are reading the correct updates for your child's class as there will be information for both grade 4 and 5 classes. The best way to stay on top of what is going on in the classroom is to review and discuss your child’s agenda daily. Mme Marnie
